Annar Follesø concert June 2
On Thursday, June 2 at 6:30 pm, Norwegian violinist Annar Follesø presents a concert celebrating the Centennial of Norwegian independence in Victor Borge Hall in Scandinavia House in Manhattan. The program provides a taste of the musical climate in Norway before and around 1905, including works by Halvorsen, Bull, Olsen, and Grieg. Winner of the violin prize at the international summer academy in Salzburg in 1998, Mr. Follesø has been praised by The Strad for his “firecracker virtuosity” and “magnificently rich and honeyed tone.” His new CD with pianist Christian Ihle Hadland and clarinetist Björn Nyman of works by Bartók will be released on the 2L label this May. Mr. Follesø will be accompanied by Christian Ihle Hadland, a celebrated young pianist who has been compared with Leif Ove Andsnes. The winner of many prestigious international prizes, the 23-year-old Mr. Hadland has performed as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and in 2003 released a critically-acclaimed debut CD with works by Medtner, Grieg, Prokofiev, and Plagge. Tickets: $25 ($17 American-Scandinavian Foundation members)
