The music of American composer Beth Anderson will be featured in a concert by critically acclaimed violinist Ana Milosavljevic on Sunday, January 30, 2005 - 5:30 PM at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, 154 W. 57th Street, corner of 7th Avenue in New York City.
The concert will celebrate the release of Beth Anderson�s new CD "Quilt Music", which features Ana Milosavljevic, and is on the Albany label. Milosavljevic will perform Anderson�s Tale # 1 and Tale #2, Dr. Blood's Mermaid Lullaby and Belgian Tango, all for violin and piano. The violinist will be performing with two prominent pianists, Christopher Oldfather and Terezija Cukrov. Other composers presented on the program will be Margaret Fairlie-Kennedy, Lauren Bernofsky, Chen Yi and John Adams.

The concert also includes music of Irma Bilbao, Rain Worthington, Violeta Dinescu, Elisabeth Austin, Joyce Hope Suskind, Stefania de Kenessey, Awilda Villarini, Joelle Wallach and others.

World-renowned violinist Marat Bisengaliev will be in concert on Monday, January 31st, 2005, - 8 P.M at Carnegie Hall�s Isaac Stern Auditorium, 57th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. This performance will be presented in conjunction with the New York opening of the Cultural Center of Kazakhstan, Inc., where Bisengaliev is Artistic Director. A portion of concert proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
Pianist Alia Alhan will accompany Bisengaliev in many of the concert selections, which will include Tartini�s Sonata �Devil's Trill�, Wieniawski�s �Original Theme with Variations�, Milstein�s �Paganiniana� and the American Premiere of Albeniz� �Asturias�, both for solo violin, Jenkins� �Cantus Insolitus� (dedicated to the victims of the recent Asian tsunami - World Premiere arrangement), and selections by Elgar, Rachmaninov, Serkebayev (�Alma-Ata� - World Premiere for violin and piano), as well as the Haydn �Sonata in G� and Amanzhol�s "Inkar", both for piano solo.

Ingram Marshall's "Alcatraz" visits New Haven March 12, 7:30, ECA Arts Hall New Haven Connecticut
Artists' collective Sound Underground presents evening of spoken poetry and music that explore role of technology in art. Program includes �Alcatraz� by guest artist Ingram Marshall, a multimedia evocation of the deserted island surrounding the infamous prison, created with photographer Jim Bengston. Also includes a premiere by Istvan B�Racz, and music by David Heetderks and Tom Izzo.

�Stillness � Poem for Orchestra�, a single 16-minute movement in three panels, slow-fast, slow, was conceived and completed in sketch-score during a Spring 2004 residency at Copland House � a magical environment providing utter quiet and long stretches of available time in which to ponder and focus intensely. Only is such a place could a work of such specific and fragile nature as this be realized. It was jointly commissioned by the Rockford Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Steven Larsen, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Crafton Beck and the University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Michael Griffith.

Benjamin Lees� Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra was first performed in 1965 by the Paganini Quartet and the Kansas City Symphony. Dan Locklair�s �Symphony of Seasons� - Symphony No. 1, will be performed by the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, David Hagy, Music Director on Saturday, January 15, 2005, 7:30 p.m. at Keppel Auditorium on the campus of Catawba College, 2300 W. Innes Street, Salisbury, North Carolina.
The concert will also feature Haydn�s "Introduction to Winter" from The Seasons, Vivaldi�s "Spring" from The Four Seasons, Barber�s �Knoxville: Summer of 1915� and Glazunov�s The Seasons: "Autumn".

Locklair�s Symphony No. 1, completed in January 2002, was inspired by The Seasons, a collection of poems by eighteenth century British poet James Thomson. The work was the result of an orchestral consortium commission led by the Louisville Orchestra and was funded in part by the Copying Assistance Program of the American Music Center. It was given its World Premiere in October 2002 by Maestro Uriel Siegel and the Louisville Orchestra and was also performed by the North Carolina Symphony led by Maestro Jeffrey Pollock in March 2004.

The Kaufman Center presents Bang on a Can�s Sixth Annual People�s Commissioning Fund (PCF) Concert at Merkin Concert Hall on Thursday, February 3, at 8 PM. New York�s electric chamber ensemble Bang on a Can All-Stars takes on new works by Carla Kihlstedt, Cynthia Hopkins and JG (Jim) Thirlwell, then welcomes special guest Philip Glass to the stage for a rare performance of his seminal early work Music in Similar Motion. The All-Stars are fresh from a U.S. tour with Glass in which they performed early works together with him to celebrate their new recording, Philip Glass�Music in Fifths (Cantaloupe Music). The program will also include one of the very first PCF pieces: Dan Plonsey�s The Plonsey Episodes (commissioned in 1998). A special edition of New Sounds� Live, the program will be hosted by John Schaefer and presented in association with WNYC Radio.
