Just got a note from Andrew Cyr inviting Sequenza21 readers (and maybe some other less distinguished people) to a free party at Le Possion Rouge tomorrow night to celebrate the Metropolis Ensemble’s Grammy nomination for its Naxos recording of Avner Dorman’s Mandolin Concerto (Avi Avital (soloist) and Andrew Cyr (conductor) with Metropolis Ensemble). Avi, Andrew and the Metropolis crew will perform a few sets during the evening, including the Mandolin Concerto and, maybe, Andrew says, even “a Balkan music jam.” Not only is admission free but the first two drinks are on the house. The party start @7 and lasts until everyone goes home. What’s not to like?
The Red Possum (as I like to call it) is located at 158 Bleecker Street (a sacred place for those of us old to have caught Thelonious Monk on stage there in a different lifetime.)
And, speaking of parties, the funniest classical CD review I have ever read is on page one of our sister ship today.
Well, I’ve experienced the slow to no loading issue on various computers – at home on my laptop and significantly from the office where I work for Musiqa here in Houston.
And unfortunately, I’m experiencing the issue again. And not being an expert, I can only diagnosis it by pointing to the images that are on the site’s server or uploaded by people contributing to the site.
Sorry, Jerry. I know its annoying when people gripe about a great website but can’t offer much more information than what I’ve put into the comments. After the holidays, I’ll explore the site more and reach out to you or Steve if I have questions or issues.
Also, if there was problems loading the site, it was probably something wrong with your connection. Sometimes a server has some issues, but most of the time, loading problems are related to the end user’s internet connection or their computer.
Dang, missed the free drinks. Sounds like it was a great party.
…actually much better now. I just visited and bounced around a bit – no delays.
I think Kenneth Woods’ photo is the issue on the page with the Schumann review. I know I’ve uploaded photos to Sequenza 21 in the past that Steve has had to resize because they’re too large for the site.
Ignore what I said earlier.
It’s not opening up. Images load half way and then hang there until I hit reload. Wish I could be more helpful – I just wanted to point it out because I think the site could be a great resource for musicians.
9 seconds for me with this tool: http://www.numion.com/stopwatch/ What do you get?
This site still loads at a PAINFULLY slow rate. What’s going on?
I was totally going to ask if it was funnier than the Vice Magazine reviews, and lo and behold, it was the Vice Magazine review.
