9 P.M. (Lifetime) LOVE NOTES When a classical music critic becomes pregnant from a fling with (gasp!) a country-music singer, she decides to give her baby to her infertile best friend. But will she undergo a change of heart, or at least a change in musical tastes? Laura Leighton and Antonio Cupo star.
A female classical music critic? Must be a fantasy.
Well, there are female music critics out there, but even in this age of gender equity in other fields of music (including compositions, thank goodness), people still refer to me as “Mr. Fine” when making comments about my American Record Guide reviews. I think that like the image of a construction worker or a train engineer, the general image of the music critic is as a male. It is still going to take a long time before the musical community at large takes a gender-neutral approach to opinion and music criticism.
Let me guess: is the infertile friend (a) a conductor, or (b) president of a major record label?
“My story’s on Lifetime.” — Isn’t that their tagline?
Sounds plausible to me. 😉
Lifetime is “Television for women who aren’t like any women you’ve ever met in your life.” — Nancy Franklin
I can’t wait!
