Dear Friends:

If you're receiving this letter and are on my email list, it's because you're either a composer or performer of new music or an enthusiastic audience member for new music.

I'd like to share news about the launch of MUSIC BYTES @ The Flea, a music series devoted to the discovery of new, fresh sound, created and performed by contemporary musicians. Curated by me, Kathleen Supové, artist-in-residence at The Flea since 2001, the series will complement the rest of the Flea's music programming by focusing on works-in-progress by emerging and mid-career composers, followed by an open discussion between the artists and the audience. I'll be moderating, along with at least one special guest at each event.

The series will consist of six evenings, each featuring two composers who will share 30 minutes of their work. The events will take place Mondays at 7 pm-- October 9th , November 6th , February 5th, April 8th and May 7th-- with the exception of Sunday January 7th, which I've designated our "family friendly" event and will be held at 3 pm. MUSIC BYTES will create an opportunity for these artists to have their work seen and heard in a professional yet informal setting, by an audience of other groundbreaking composers, fellow musicians, and enthusiastic fans: in other words, you!

You can download an application form or fill it out online. Note that the deadline is coming up: Monday, August 7, at 5:00 PM for receipt.
We're looking for young artists doing new things, who would like an opportunity to present work in a wonderful space with top-notch technical assistance; and also, artists who are more mid-career, who, say, would like to present a new project. And anything else that you might think is right for this.
